Rescued puppy Arthur is so tiny he has to keep warm in jumpers made

When you’re a teeny tiny puppy facing the chill, you’re going to need your own collection of cosy knits. Luckily  for Chinese crested Chihuahua cross puppy Arthur, his new carers are on the case. When the tiny puppy was handed in to the RSPCA, he was sick, scared, and had developed hypothermia from the freezing cold. Staff knew they needed to get him warm – fast. They searched for something small enough to fit his little body, and eventually found a solution: children’s socks. Now, eight-week-old Arthur is battling the cold with his own comfy sock-jumpers, with little holes carefully cut out for his legs. The director at Chobham’s RSPCA centre, Liz Wood has made him his own stylish collection of jumpers, in all the snazzy designs Arthur could dream of. “Poor little Arthur was in a bad way when he came in to us,” says Liz. “He had sores all over his body and was freezing cold. His body temperature was four degrees lower than it should’ve been. Thankfully he is a little trooper and has fought back.” He still weighs in at only 600g, and at four inches tall he’s the smallest resident the centre has ever had. Arthur was taken away from his mother too young — the RSPCA think he was sold at only five weeks old – and so needs lots of extra TLC. He’s also too small to stay in the kennels, so staff have been taking turns fostering the pup in their homes. When he arrived at the centre he was poorly, scared, and quiet, sleeping all day and unable to eat. But with the help of the RSPCA he’s staying warm, happy, and healthy, and is on the way to making a full recovery.
